Dan Michelson
is the CEO of Strata Decision Technology where his focus is to ensure the company delivers on its passion – helping hospitals and health networks drive margin to fuel their mission. The Company’s solutions are used by over 1,000 healthcare organizations, including many of the largest and most influential healthcare systems in the U.S.  Under his leadership, Strata has increased exponentially in size, scale, sophistication, impact and reputation.  The company has been recognized three times as one of the fastest growing companies in the U.S. by Inc. Magazine, has been named three times as one of the best places to work in healthcare by Becker’s Healthcare and has received the prestigious “Best in KLAS” recognition for the highest customer satisfaction by KLAS Enterprises three times.   Additionally, Dan is a two-time finalist for Illinois Technology CEO of the Year

With over 25 years of healthcare experience, Dan has been one of the industry’s leaders in developing the healthcare information technology market, including serving as one of the original work group members of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology and authoring the book Margin + Mission: A Prescription for Curing Healthcare’s Cost Crisis.  Prior to joining Strata, Dan was a member of the leadership team that grew a small healthcare IT company grow from 100 to over 6,000 employees and from $26 million to over $1.4 billion in annual revenue and was an influential player in shaping the Electronic Health Record market . He has provided strategy and process redesign consulting for many of the leading hospitals and health systems in the U.S. and served in leadership roles for Baxter Healthcare and AstraZeneca, two leading medical companies.

Dan is the co-founder of projectMUSIC™, a benefit concert that sends underprivileged children to overnight camp and of HackHunger™, a collaborative of tech companies working to crack the code on childhood hunger. 

Dan earned his BS in Finance from Indiana University and his MBA from DePaul University.  He is an avid runner, having completed 15 marathons.  Dan and his wife Kim have two children who are teaching them more and more every day.

Heidi Farrell

Vice President, Human Resources

With over 15 years of experience in human resources and talent management, Heidi is responsible for attracting, engaging, and retaining top talent at Strata Decision Technology; recognizing the importance of connecting our commitment to clients with those who are delivering on that promise.  With the belief that an engaged and inspired team will result in world-class service and innovative products for our clients, Heidi leads the team charged with driving the growth and development of Strata’s most important asset – our people.

Prior to joining Strata Decision, Heidi was a member of the leadership team at Fruition Partners, Inc., a global cloud, technology-enabled services firm.  Heidi and her team shaped HR programs aligning business objectives with people initiatives.  These efforts in areas such as performance management, employee engagement, rewards and career development enabled people to do their best work, and led to the business exceeding performance expectations year over year.

Prior to her career at Fruition Partners, Heidi worked at Morningstar, Inc., winner of a variety of best practice awards, including Fortune’s 100 Best Places to Work and Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplace. She led people efforts in a variety of roles throughout her tenure, focused primarily on hiring and retaining great people, a core value of the organization. 

Heidi is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by both SHRM and HCRI.  She earned a B.A. in Organizational Studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Liz Kirk

Senior Vice President of Client Services & Cost Improvement Solutions

With over 15 years of experience working with healthcare providers both as a hospital administrator and a consultant, Liz Kirk is responsible for leading our client services team and the development and delivery of our Continuous Cost Improvement solutions.

Liz joined Strata Decision 2 years ago to develop the Continuous Cost Improvement application which is designed to identify and quantify cost savings opportunities, then to drive accountability for realizing true cost savings.

Since then, Liz’s role has expanded to include leadership of Strata’s implementation, optimization, support and project management functions. In this role, she is responsible for building and improving processes to increase client satisfaction and adoption of our technology. With her tenured background in healthcare provider clinical and financial operations, Liz’s primary goal is to position Strata to partner with our clients to address their most challenging issues, such as succeeding under value-based payments, reducing cost while improving quality, and enabling efficient decision making.  

Prior to joining Strata Decision, Liz was responsible for cost reduction and revenue improvement at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. In this role, she led organizational wide initiatives which reduced operating expenses by 17% in two years and added 3% in new net revenue through Charge Capture & Clinical Documentation Improvements.

Prior to her career at Northwestern Memorial, Liz was instrumental in developing revenue cycle consulting and technology services for large physician practices at Accretive Health and in starting the Revenue Cycle and Financial Improvement practice at GE Healthcare Performance Solutions. She began her career at Deloitte Consulting working with both payers and providers as clients began focusing on deep analytics and rules based technology to improve their revenue cycle and care management functions.

Liz is certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a Master Change Agent. She earned a MBA and MHA at the University of Minnesota and a B.S. in Finance at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. 

John Martino

Senior Vice President, Finance

John joined Strata in 2015 and currently serves as SVP of Finance.  John’s experience as an accounting and finance professional spans small and large software and healthcare services companies, over the last 23 years. 

Prior to joining Strata Decision, John worked for Catamaran Corporation, a publicly-traded company with over $20 billion in revenue, where he was Controller overseeing a 70-person team.

John started his career at Allscripts, a major healthcare IT company, where he helped put the systems, controls, and processes in place as the company grew from around $50 million in revenue to $300 million.

John has a BS in Accounting from DePaul University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
